2026 GMC Terrain Release Date

2026 GMC Terrain Release Date

The GMC Terrain is a compact SUV with the personality of a truck, and GMC's entry-level vehicle is more appealing than ever. The third-generation of the Terrain was launched for 2025, and its lineup is more complete for 2026 with the addition of the off-road AT4 and luxurious Denali trims. GMC has yet to announce the release date for the 2026 Terrain, but production was supposed to begin in March of 2025. It's reported that most of its cosmetics and features will carry over for existing trim levels when the Terrain arrives in our new inventory.

What's new for 2026?

Two new models will join the Terrain lineup for the 2026 model year. One is an off-road-oriented AT4 trim and an upscale Denali version. Reports indicate that the Terrain AT4 will come with additional ride height, beefy all-terrain tires, special protection for the underbody, and red front recovery hooks. At the highest level, the Terrain Denali will offer more luxurious interior accommodations and more standard features, including heated rear seats, 19-inch wheels, and a suspension that's tuned to maximize ride comfort.

The engine and performance

All trim levels of the 2026 GMC Terrain will run with a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, and output will vary based on the drivetrain. Both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variations of the Terrain produce 175 horsepower, with torque coming in at 184 pound-feet with front-wheel drive and 203 pound-feet with all-wheel drive.

Transmissions will vary depending on the configuration, with the front-wheel drive Terrain featuring a continuously variable automatic while the all-wheel drive models get an eight-speed automatic. The all-wheel drive Terrain Elevation model should reach 60 mph in 8.6 seconds and the maximum towing capacity is 1500 pounds. The highest level of fuel efficiency is expected to be 26 MPG in the city and 28 MPG on the highway.

Interior highlights

The Terrain is a two-row SUV that provides seating for five. Its interior design is a combination of rugged themes and it comes with an abundance of convenience features and technology. For example, a vertically oriented infotainment touchscreen provides excellent visibility from its position on the dashboard. All models come with heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start.

Front-row legroom is generous, and the seats are nicely cushioned and comfortable. With an all-terrain AT4 model and a luxury-oriented Denali model becoming part of the Terrain lineup, each one gets a unique interior identity to match its character. The 2026 GMC Terrain will give you 43.9 inches of front leg room and 39.7 inches of rear legroom, with cargo space maxing out at 63.5 cubic feet when the back seats are folded down.

Technology

A large 15.0-inch infotainment touchscreen comes standard across the lineup and it operates with GM's latest Google-based interface. Navigation is offered through the Google Maps app, and you can add more apps by downloading them to the system using a 5G data connection. Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ are standard features, and all trims also come with an 11.0-inch digital gauge display.
